On August 9, 2011at approximately 8:00 pm, Sergeant Matt Wilson observed a vehicle driving erratically on Interstate 59 north bound around the 218 mile marker. Sergeant Wilson initiated a traffic stop and made contact with Teddy Lee Knox of Houston Texas. After a brief conversation with Mr. Knox circumstances led Sgt Wilson to believe criminal activity was being committed.  Drug Task Force Agent Tony Blackwell and his K9 partner Yogi were called to the scene to do a walk around of the suspect vehicle. The K9 indicated that there were possibly illegal drugs inside the vehicle. Sgt Wilson and DTF Agent Blackwell conducted a search of the vehicle which resulted in the seizure of approximately 13 pounds of marijuana in a package wrapped as a Christmas gift. Teddy Lee Knox and Katherine J Tolliver both of Houston, Texas were arrested on charges of Drug Trafficking and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Sgt Wilson and Agent Blackwell are part of the Dekalb County Highway Interdiction Task Force Unit. The DeKalb County Drug Task Force is comprised of officers from the Fort Payne Police Department, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department and DeKalb County District Attorney’s office. The responsibility of the unit is to combat illegal drug transportation throughout the county.
