Chief Randy Bynum states:
On July 25th at approximately 6:50 a.m. the Fort Payne Food and Tobacco Store at 2004 Godfrey Ave NE, reported at robbery. A white male subject wearing a mask entered the store with what appeared to be a rifle. The male subject instructed the clerk to open the drawer and put its contents in a bag. There was no money in the drawer, only packets of spice. The male subject exited the store on foot running southeast along Godfrey Avenue. Officers responded and followed up on several leads throughout the day. At approximately 9:00 p.m., Steven Richard Mulkey, age 20 of Fort Payne was taken into custody at the Fort Payne Police Department and charged with First Degree Robbery. Chief Randy Bynum would like to give credit to the officers who responded to the robbery, to the officers that searched throughout the day and evening for the suspect and the hard work of the Criminal Investigation Division that lead to the arrest of Steven Mulkey.
