On Friday, April 08, 2011, at 9:30am Fort Payne Police Department Chief Randy Bynum stated Fort Payne High School was placed on lockdown. The Fort Payne Police Department, the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Department, the Scottsboro Police Department, and the Dekalb County Drug Task Force conducted a search for illegal drugs on the campus with three K-9 units.
As a result of the search for illegal drugs, Makayla Nicole Black, age 18 of Fort Payne was arrested on Possession of Marijuana Second Degree. Officers stated that a small amount of marijuana was found in a vehicle in the parking lot of the High School. Officers stated that no drugs were found inside the school.
This was a combined effort of the Fort Payne City School Board and several law enforcement agencies trying to reduce illegal drug activities.
