Commissioner Ron Ogletree states:
 
On March 18, 2010, at approximately 9:10 am Fort Payne Police Officer Sgt. Nick Brown attempted to stop a white Chevrolet pickup for speeding on Sylvania Road. The driver refused to stop and a pursuit began. Pursuit continued out of Fort Payne City limits and onto Sand Mountain. As pursued vehicle passed Blake Volunteer Fire Department driver threw several objects out or vehicle. Pursuit continued for another half mile when driver stopped. Taken into custody was Jody Daniel Phillips, a 34 year old white male from 2253 County Road 121 Fort Payne. 
 
Phillips was charged with Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement and Reckless Endangerment, both misdemeanor offenses.
 
A search of the area where objects were thrown turned up a shake and bake meth lab, drugs, and drug paraphernalia. This resulted in three additional charges against Phillips, Manufacture of a Controlled Substance First Degree and Possession of a Controlled Substance, both felony charges. Phillips was also charged with a misdemeanor offense of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
 
The case has been turned over to the Dekalb County Drug Task Force for further investigation. 
 
Assisting also were units from Sylvania Police Department and the Dekalb County Sheriff’s office.
