Collection of the 8 cubic yard front loading containers is offered on a weekly basis, twice per week basis (either Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday), three times per week basis (Monday-Wednesday-Friday) or daily basis (Monday thru Friday). The 3 cubic yard rear loading dumpsters are collected once a week and are located at small businesses scattered along residential routes.

Collection on the 20, 30, and 40 cubic yard open top roll off containers is on a per call basis. Usually a full container called in before lunch will be collected on the same day. In all cases, containers are collected, emptied, and returned within 24 business hours after the initial call. The materials accepted are dry industrial waste materials which may be legally accepted at the Fort Payne Landfill and include, but are not limited to, metal, plastic, wood, paper, cardboard, textile waste, etc.

The Sanitation Department operates with eight twenty yard open top roll off containers which are utilized for the collection of private construction/demolition waste. These containers are placed upon request at residences or businesses for contractors to use in containing C&D wastes which are accepted at the Fort Payne Landfill. A call-in list is maintained and the containers are hauled for disposal or hauled and returned upon request within 24 business hours after notification.

Unlike industrial waste, there is no guarantee that the Sanitation Department will deliver and service containers. A safe place must be present at the job site for the container to sit, be guarded, and be kept accessible at all times. Otherwise, the department will not provide the requested container. In the event that the Sanitation Department cannot or will not provide a container to a job site, a private hauler is available who also will provide roll off C&D containers to a job sites within the city. The fees for the private hauler are significantly higher than the fees charged by the city for the same service.
